TEMPE, Ariz. -- In competing in the final round of the NCAA West Regional, senior Rufie Fessler concluded his collegiate career with a top-25.
Fessler matched his round two score and fired one-over par, 71 on the day. He finished the tournament with a tie for 23rd place.
"Rufie played well," head coach Mike Watney said. "He ended his career with a solid performance. You could see the respect that other players and coaches had for him."
On the tournament, Fessler recorded his second-best performance of the season and shot even par with 210 (68-71-71) while carding 11 birdies.
"I didn't hit the ball as well as I would of liked, and as good as I was putting," Fessler said. "However, it was a lot of fun to have coach along with me all tournament and it was a great experience."
Fessler finished in the top-10 of individuals who are not on top-five teams that will move onto the finals.
Fessler sat six strokes behind Dustin Korte of Austin Peay State who will move onto the finals as the lone individual. Korte fired six-under par, 204 (64-71-69).
Fessler was the first Bulldogs since 2011 to represent Fresno State in the NCAA West Regional. In 2011, Bhavik Patel concluded his regional experience with a 34th place finish at five-over par, 221.
Rufie is a class act and Fresno State will miss him," Watney said. "Fortunately, he has graduated and will move on to bigger and better things."
