Men's Golf Completes First Day Of Season Opener In 14th

    BEAUMONT, Calif. - Fresno State kicked off its fall season Friday, finishing 14th with 587 after the second round of UCLA's 30-team Gold Rush California Collegiate Golf Showcase, held at the par 72 PGA of Southern California Golf Club. UCLA is in first with 565 (-11) followed by Stanford with 566 (-10).

    Junior Mark Modglin is leading the Bulldogs in a tie for eighth after shooting four under his first round and 73 his second (141). Modglin, however, along with junior Ryan McDonald (74-77 - 151) who is tied for 82nd and Bulldog newcomer freshman Keith Berry (75-78 - 153), tied for 95th , are playing as individuals in the tournament.

    Junior Brian Kelley, also making his Fresno State debut, is leading the Bulldog team with a score of 143 (73-70) to place him in a tie for 18th, followed by senior Ryan Carter in a tie for 48th after shooting two over his second round (72-74 - 146). Newcomers Jon Rosa (76-72 - 148) and Jason Anthony (77-76 - 153), both juniors, finished tied for 63rd and 95th, respectively. Senior George McKean (74-76 - 150) ended the day tied for 77th after shooting four over his second round.

    Team play resumes Saturday at 7 a.m., followed by individual golfers at noon.
