Round Three Rained Out at Husky Invite
Oct. 2, 2007
FRESNO, Calif. - Oregon State won the team title and OSU senior James Allenby took home medalist honors at the weather-shortened Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Complex, Tuesday. Host Washington and UW senior Zach Bixler finished runner-up in both the team and individual standings in their fall debut. Tournament scores were based on the first 36-holes played on Monday as rain and wind on Tuesday forced the cancellation of the final 18 holes. Play started at the regularly scheduled starting tee time of 7:30 a.m. but was called a couple hours later. The second round on Monday was suspended due to darkness but the two threesomes that weren't able finish their rounds - that included Allenby and Bixler - played their final hole Tuesday morning. The Fresno State men's golf team took 11th place out of 13 teams. After two rounds of golf the Bulldogs finished 32-over with 306-302 - 608. Sophomore Grant Doverspike had his first top-ten finish of the year to lead the `Dogs. Doverspike tied for fifth place at 1-over par with a 75-70 - 145. Matt Ryan is tied for 24th with a 75-76 - 151 at 7-over par. Todd Angel shot a 79-76 to tie for 44th place with 11-over. Michael Gideon is tied for 53rd at 13-over and Brad Wyatt is in 67th place with 21-over. "The positive thing for us, is Grant's fifth place finish, it looks like he's got his game back," said Mike Watney. "It is really different up here, playing in the rain, and these guys aren't used to it. I have no doubt that we can go to Cal next week and play really good."
The Bulldogs head to Fairfax, Calif., next week to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by Cal, Oct. 8-9. 2007 Husky Invitational Gold Mountain Golf Club - Olympic Course; Bremerton, Wash. Par 72/7,061 Yards Final Team Leaderboard Final Top-10 Individual Leaderboard
