Angel Leads 'Dogs to Tie for Fourth at Alister MacKenzie

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team (271-280-285 - 839) finished 16-under par today at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. The Bulldogs tied with Oregon for fourth place out of 16 teams at the par 71 Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. San Diego State (828) took the team title finishing 24-under par. Washington (832) followed in second and UC Irvine (833) took third. "It's a solid finish," said Mike Watney. "We beat a lot of good ranked teams today. We are starting to play better golf, and overall we did good today." Todd Angel (63-70-69 - 202) took second place today to lead the Bulldogs finishing 11-under par. This marks Angel's best finish making 15 birdies and one eagle throughout the three rounds. Angel started the tournament out strong shooting a 29 on the back nine of the first round, and played steady through the end. Angel finished just two strokes shy of the individual leader, Daryl Fathauer of Louisville. "Today was all about Todd Angel for us," said Mike Watney "I'm very proud of him. It was a pressure situation for him. He has never been in contention to win a tournament before and he did great." Grant Doverspike tied for 20th with 3-under par 202. Matt Ryan shot a 67 today with six birdies and two bogeys to tie for 28th place at 2-under par. Brad Wyatt tied for 38th place with an even total of 213. Mark Pryor was in 78th place finishing 14 over.
The Bulldogs will take a week off before traveling to San Diego, Calif. for the SDSU Collegiate Cup. Fresno State Individuals Team Standings: |
