Fresno, Calif. --The Fresno State men's golf team took 8th at the Cal hosted Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot one over par for a total score of 853 (289-272-292).
The 'Dogs faced a tough 16-team field during the two-day tournament at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
"We really struggled on the greens," head coach Mike Watney said. "The winds came up, the pins were tough, and the golf course was difficult. We could have played better today, but we are looking forward to competition down the road. Until then, we have some work to do."
Bulldog Rufie Fessler made the top 10 of the 79-player tournament. Fessler (71-65-71--207) shot six under par and finished in a tie for 9th place. Fessler made a total of 10 birdies and shot even in round one and three.
"Kudos to Rufie who finished in the top ten in a very good field," Watney said. "He played a solid game."
Jack Mulroy finished in the top 25 with a total score of 213 (72-68-73). Mulroy shot even and tied for 22nd place. Mulroy lead the Bulldogs with 13 birdies.
"Jack made a good comeback after our first tournament and we are happy about that as well," Watney said.
The Bulldogs face their next tournament on Oct. 29 in Stockton, Calif. The 'Dogs will play in the three-day Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Cub.
