FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's golf stayed at seventh place out of 18 teams in Lakeside, Calif. at the Barona Creek Golf Club. UAB moved up from yesterday's performance to clinch the title with an 840. Wichita (844) is in second and Colorado State is in third with 845. University of San Diego (849) took fourth and San Diego State (853) rounded out the top five.
Matt Shaw (70-73-72) led the Bulldogs with a total score of 215 to tie for 20th. Gunnar Avinelis shot the best third round today with a 71 for the Bulldogs. Avinelis and Matt Ryan finished even with 216 tied for 25th. Brad Wyatt shot a 75 today to stand tied for 35th. Grant Doverspike tied for 49th with a total score of 221. Mark Pryor tied for 80th playing as an individual he improved his last two rounds to a 73 and 71 for 226.
"We beat a few teams that we have lost to earlier in the season, so I feel we are making progress," said head coach Mike Watney. "Now we have two weeks to get ready for our last fall tournament, so we hope to do well in Pacific."
The Bulldogs are idle next week but will travel to Stockton, Calif. for a three-day tournament hosted by Pacific Nov. 6-8.
