FRESNO, Calif. -- The Fresno State men's golf team sits in 11th place out of 16 teams after the first round of competition at the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate in Kauai, Hawaii on Monday, Nov. 5.
The Warrior Wave Intercollegiate, previously named the Princeville Invitational, is held on the par-72, 7,223-yard Makai Golf Course at the Princeville Golf Course. In round one, the Bulldogs shot a six over par (296).
The `Dogs are lead by senior Rich Gilkey who finished in the top five of the 79-player tournament with a tie for fourth place. Gilkey shot three under par (69) and made five birdies and eagled on hole eighteen.
"Rich had a very good day," head coach Mike Watney said. "It was particularly interesting because from the third whole he lost the ball and made a double bogey, but from that point on played fabulous golf all the way to the clubhouse. It was great round from our fifth man and that is what we have been looking for."
Bulldog Nate Jessup shot three over par (75) and finished in a tie for 38th place. The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday for the second round of the Warrior Wave Intercollegiate with a tee time set for 7:30 a.m. HST.
