Bulldogs Head To Hawaii
The men's golf team travels to Waikoloa, Hawaii, this week to compete in the 18-team Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate, hosted by Hawaii-Hilo at the par 72 Waikoloa Village Course. The field includes top-25 ranked programs such as Oklahoma State, UCLA and USC. The Bulldogs will play 18 holes per day, teeing off at 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 7 a.m. on Friday.
Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Ping Arizona Intercollegiate
Fresno State (297-286-295-878) (+11) completed its spring season opener - the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate - in 10th place, dropping from a ninth-place tie after the close of play Feb. 1. BYU (280-282-280-842) (-10) fell from the lead position, finishing second to New Mexico (289-280-271-840) at 12-under. Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares (65-66-71-202) claimed the individual title at 11-under after leading the field both days. Pacing the Bulldogs was junior Jason Anthony (73-71-72) who tied for 25th at three-over for a 216 total. Senior Ryan Carter, two strokes behind, (75-70-73-218) dropped from a 23rd-place tie to finish tied for 32nd at five-over. Junior Brian Kelley (73-72), who began the day tied for 43rd, carded a third-round 77 to finish nine-over and tied for 50th place (222), while juniors Mark Modglin (76-73-80-229) and Ryan McDonald (81-75-73-229) finished the tournament tied for 66th at 16-over.
Men's Golf Ties For Seventh At Barona Collegiate Cup
Fresno State (286-282) finished the Barona Collegiate Cup tied for seventh with host San Diego State (290-282-279) after shooting a final-round 283 for an 851 total. BYU (271-277-274) captured the title with 822, followed by Denver (278-282-281) and Texas A&M (285-278-278) 19 strokes behind with 841. Junior Brian Kelley led the Bulldogs, who received four individual even or subpar scores in the final round of the tournament. Kelley (70-69-68-207) tied for seventh after carding a third-round 68 for a nine-under total and junior Jon Rosa (70-70-71-211) shot one-under to finish five-under and tied for 18th. Senior Ryan Carter (72-70-70-212) moved up six places to tie for 21st after notching a third-round 70 and junior Jason Anthony (74-73-76-223) dropped from 53rd to 64th after shooting four-over. Senior George McKean bettered his second round score by three strokes, shooting 74 for a 228 total and moving up one spot to 74th. Junior Mark Modglin (73-84-72) played as an individual in the tournament, finishing 77th after shooting even his third round for a 229 total.
Rain Cancels Final Round Of Wolf Pack Classic, Fresno State Finishes Fifth
The third and final round of Nevada's Wolf Pack Classic was cancelled Oct. 19 due to inclement weather at the par 72 Wolf Run Golf Club. Fresno State finished fifth with a 36-hole total of 579 (290-289). Lamar University captured the team title over the 18-team field with 564 (283-281), followed by Oregon State with 571 (288-283). The Bulldogs put two of their own in the top 10, with senior Ryan Carter tied for fourth - one stroke away from first - after shooting even his first round and four-under his second (140) (-4). Junior Jon Rosa (70-72) tied for tenth after posting 142 (-2). Senior George McKean (71-74-145) finished one-over and tied for 22nd and junior Jason Anthony (80-75) (+11) shot 155 to tie for 73rd. Junior Mark Modglin (77-82-159) (+15) tied for 86th.
