FRESNO, Calif. - After round one in Wahiawa, Hawaii, Fresno State is at 17th out of 22 teams. The `Dogs shot 296 as a team to finish 8-over. The leader after round one is UNLV shooting 11-under. Brigham Young follows close behind in second shooting 9-under. There is a three way tie for third between Auburn, Colorado State and Long Beach State with a score of 284 (-4).

The leaders for the Bulldogs today were freshman Brad Wyatt and senior Gunnar Avinelis both shooting an even par to tie for 35th.

"We did not have a good day," said head coach Mike Watney. "Although, we had a couple of reasonable scores. Our freshman Brad Wyatt shot a 72 and so did Gunnar."

Matt Ryan shot a 75 while Matt Shaw shot a 77. Ryan is tied at 79th and Shaw is tied for 93rd after only one round. Todd Angel posted a 79 to tie for 111th.

"It's only the first round," said Watney. " We're not that far back, with a better round tomorrow, we'll be back in it."

Individually, Mike Drake of Long Beach State opened with a 65 to hold the lead. He's followed by BYU's Nick Becker (-6), Frank Wrenn IV of Southern Methodist (-5) and four golfers tied for fourth at four-under-par.

Play continues tomorrow at 8:00 a.m., concluding on Friday, Feb. 23.
