FRESNO, Calif. -- The men's golf head coach Chad Spencer announced the addition of Justin Avery to the Bulldog's 2014-15 roster after signing a National Letter of Intent to play golf at Fresno State.
"Justin will be a great addition to our team," head coach Chad Spencer said. "He's a fantastic student as well as a golfer. He's a hard worker and he has grown up around the Bulldogs. I know he will be able to come in and compete right away for a spot in the starting lineup."
Avery is from Clovis, Calif. and attended Buchanan High School.
During high school, Avery was a four-year Varsity letterman and won league championship in 2013. Avery was also awarded team MVP in 2012, honored as All League in 2012 and 2013 and All Valley in 2012, and named Fresno Bee All Star in 2012 and 2013.
Avery was the Buchanan Bear Award Winner, which recognizes student-athletes who hold the qualities of scholarship, leadership, integrity, athleticism, and dedication.
In 2013, Avery was a member of the Northern California Team for the Northern vs. Southern California Match Play tournament.
On the course, Avery shot a 71 to win the Fort Washington Junior Championship and a 66 to record his best competitive round at the FCG Invitational at Bayonet. Additionally, Avery shot six-under, 138 (67-71) to win the 2014 TRAC Tournament.
Avery will join the Bulldog family in fall 2014.
