FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Bhavik Patel has been selected as an individual participant for the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf San Diego Regional which will take place at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., May 19-21. The selection marks Patel's second time chosen as an individual and his third appearance overall in a regional.

Patel, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., claimed first place at The Farms last year when the Bulldogs competed in the USD Calloway Invitational. He posted six birdies over his final 13 holes to finish at 8-under, 208, winning by three strokes.

"I am very happy Bhavik has been chosen to compete at the San Diego Regional," head coach Mike Watney said. "This is a course he likes and has had great success on."

The Farms Golf Club is a private facility located in the ruggedly beautiful terrain of Rancho Santa Fe, one of San Diego's most prestigious north coastal communities. The 6,947-yard, par-72 golf course offers a layout that is both challenging and enjoyable to play.

Thirteen teams and ten individuals were chosen to compete in the San Diego Regional. The teams in order of seeding are UCLA, Texas, USC, San Diego, Ohio State, UNLV, North Texas, Middle Tennessee, Tulsa, SMU, Pacific, San Francisco and Cleveland State.

The individuals who were selected are Nick Delio (CS Northridge), Donald Constable (Minnesota), Travis Ross (New Mexico), Scott Smith (Nevada), Erik Van Rooyan (Minnesota), Bhavik Patel (Fresno State), Glen Scher (UC Santa Barbara), Jerry He (UC Irvine), Rick Lamb (Santa Clara) and Donald DeNyse (Siena).

The top five teams and one top individual not from the top-5 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 31-June 5.



Patel led the Dogs with a 72.03 scoring average, putting him in ninth place all-time for the lowest season average in program history. He also ranked fourth in the nation by sinking 139 birdies this season. At the conclusion of the WAC Championship, Patel was honored with his second consecutive first team All-WAC award.
