FRESNO, Calif. - Grant Doverspike, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif. (Stockdale HS), has been selected to the Ping Division-I Southwest All-Region team. The top 15 players from each region are represented on the all-region teams.
"Grant is really an exceptional golfer," said Head Coach Mike Watney. "He was our MVP and he certainly deserves this recognition as an All-Region player."
Doverspike helped lead the Bulldogs to the championship round at the
WAC tournament, where the team placed third overall. Doverspike
finished second at the tournament with a score of 3-over par and with a
three-round total of 219.
Doverspike led the team in strokes with an average of 72.41 and five
top-five finishes, three of which were for second place. He was also
awarded Most Valuable Player on the Bulldog squad.
"His two tournament wins puts him in elite company and I'm just glad we still have him for two more years," said Watney.
As a freshman, Doverspike became the first Bulldog to win the WAC medal.
He's been named to the All-WAC team each of the last two years.
Doverspike is now eligible for the Ping All-America honor.
