Patel to Compete at the U.S. Amateur

FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Bhavik Patel will compete in the 2009 U.S. Amateur in Tulsa, Okla. on Aug. 24-30. Patel managed to qualify out of 6,948 by shooting rounds of 68 and 66. The event will take place at the par 70, 7,093 yard Southern Hills Country Club and the par 70, 7,336 yard Cedar Ridge Country Club. "Nothing Bhavik does surprises me," said head coach Mike Watney. "He is an outstanding young man and an excellent golfer. "Everyone is great in the Amateur field but I wouldn't put it past Bhavik to do something really special. I'm excited for him," said Watney. The first and second rounds of stroke play are set for Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 24-25) at both courses. All match play rounds will be played at Southern Hills Country Club, beginning Wednesday (Aug. 26). A single round of match play is scheduled on Wednesday, followed by the second and third rounds on Thursday (Aug. 27), and single rounds again from Friday-Sunday (Aug. 28-30). Patel will tee of Mon. at 12:45 p.m. PT. off of hole one at Southern Hills Country Club. For round two, Patel will tee off of hole 10 at Cedar Ridge Country Club on Tues. at 7:30 a.m. PT. The winner of the U.S. Amateur gets invited to the Masters, the U.S. Open and the British Open if they stay an amateur. CLICK HERE for the latest news, photos and scores from the championship.
