    FRESNO, Calif. - After a solid season in which the Bulldogs posted six Top 5 tournament finishes, the Fresno State men's golf team is ready to start the new Centennial season off in a big way. The Bulldogs will be heading to Tanagura, Japan to compete in the 28th annual Topy Cup.

    For this tournament the U.S. teams must be invited to participate by the Japanese Golf Association. Only six teams are invited from the U.S. and Fresno State was picked as one of the four men's teams to take part in the action. The other men's teams traveling to Japan are University of Arizona, Arizona State, and Texas A&M. The organizers of the tournament pay for five players and one coach to travel to Japan to compete.

    Patel's Place: Named team MVP for 2010 ... 2009 U.S. Amateur semi-finalist ... earned a win at the USD Callaway Invitational in which he shot 8-under par ... ranks fourth in the nation in subpar strokes per round (4.34) and 14th in birdies (131) ... ranked No. 74 in the GolfStat Golf Cup rankings and has a 71.58 scoring average ... leads the WAC with 11 rounds in the 60s ... ranked second in the nation for birdies and made 144 last season ... Ranked number one for birdie conversions ... Finished in the Top 10 in four of his six tournaments last season with one victory and two second-place finishes ... had a T-2 at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 10-under par ... was selected the WAC Player of the Week for his performance twice this spring ... selected WAC Player of the Month for October ... competed in eight tournaments after joining the `Dogs in the spring of `09 ... averaged 73.25 stokes per round as a freshman ... highlighted the season with a tie for fourth at the Western intercollegiate ... qualified for NCAA Regionals as an individual ... WAC Player of the Week ... had two top 10 finishes, one coming at the WAC Championships ... had 69 birdies and four eagles ... teams Outstanding Freshman ... holds the course record of 62 at Seven Oaks Country Club in Bakersfield ... was named Bulldog Athlete of the week twice last season and won the WAC player award three times.
