FRESNO, Calif.-- Fresno State head men's golf coach Mike Watney released the 2012-13 schedule on Thursday. The Bulldogs return six from last year's roster and add three new golfers this year.

"We have good players returning and we have some new blood that should push the veterans," said Watney.

The Bulldog family grew with the addition of three new golfers including senior Rich Gilkey and freshmen Troix Tonkham and Gunner Kirschenmann. They join a roster that includes seniors Rufie Fessler, Jack Mulroy and Johnny Partridge, junior Nate Jessup, sophomores Keenan Nelson and Macgregor Hoobery, and redshirt freshmen Troy Sweeney. With the combination of new and old `Dogs, they will carry on the depth trademark that many great past Bulldog Golf Teams have demonstrated.

"There won't be just five or six players getting playing time," Watney said. "Even the seniors will have to stay sharp to keep the newcomers out of the lineup."

For the fall schedule season, the `Dogs will play in four invitationals, three of which are in California. The `Dogs play in their first fall season tournament Sept. 24-25 at Fort Ord Bayonent and Blackhorse in Monterey, Calif. The `Dogs will then travel to Kauai, Hawaii for their last invitational in the beginning of November.

"We are playing great courses and the level of competition will be such that wins will not come easy," Watney said. "I've always said that the only way to improve is to get beat so that you realize that there is another level of excellence."

When the spring season begins, the `Dogs will play in seven tournaments from the beginning of February to the end of April.

"We will have seniors playing better than they have ever played and freshmen getting their first delicious taste of college competition," Watney said.

At the end of their spring season, the `Dogs will play in their first Mountain West Conference Championship in Tucson, Ariz.

As the `Dogs face new courses and new competition, Watney hopes that the players who are motivated, dedicated and talented will step up and play to their full potential.
