Nov. 19, 2009
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's golf coach Mike Watney announced the signing of two golfers to the 2010-2011 season. Keenan Nelson and Nate Jessup are the newest additions to the team for the fall of 2010. Nelson hails from Murrieta, Calif., and possesses many outstanding credentials, including numerous junior tournament wins and a Southwestern League First Team All-League title as a junior. In addition to his achievements on the course, Nelson has maintained a 3.94 GPA in the MIT Engineering Program at Murrieta Valley High School. "Keenan (Nelson) is a fierce competitor on the links and in the classroom," said Watney. "He will be the first engineering major that I've had on the team. Keenan will be a great addition to our team." Jessup is from Springville, Calif., and is another standout, California athlete. Jessup has captured multiple junior tournament wins and was selected to the Fresno Bee All-Valley Team and the All-Tulare County Golf Team. He is the no. 1 golf player at Porterville High School, a team that has a three-year combined record of 47-1. "Nate (Jessup) has shown the ability to take it deep in tournaments," said Watney. "He often shoots in the 60's including a 66-71 at the Kings River Junior. His handicap is +1.5 and his GPA is 3.86. That is a great combination in a student athlete. Nate will be fun to watch as a Bulldog."
