Bulldogs Remain Perfect on Season

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 46 Fresno State maintained its homecourt dominancy at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center with a 6-1 victory over No. 71 Pacific on Wednesday.
The `Dogs came out with a purpose, as they swept the doubles portion of the match.
No. 20 Mirko Zapletal and Taylor Leiby knocked off the Tigers' top duo of Vegerd Veskimagi and Fernando Ristow, 8-3. No. 36 Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier defeated Artem Gramma and Ivan Garcia-Castro, 8-2, and Siddharth Alapati and Tejesvi Veerepalli beat Karl-Erik Paaro and Renan Delsin, 8-3.
"I'm really happy with the way we came out for doubles," Fresno State head coach Jay Udwadia said. "I thought all three doubles teams played really well."
The `Dogs kept the momentum through singles.
De Villiers clinched the match for the `Dogs with his dramatic 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Ivan Castro-Garcia.
"I just wanted to keep the ball in play and not make any mistakes," de Villiers said about his tiebreaker victory in the second set.
Newcomer and 83rd-ranked David Ayoun continued his tear with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Paaro.
Boutillier, Veerepalli and Alapati also recorded victories in singles action for the Bulldogs.
Fresno State improves to 3-0 on the season, as it now sets its focus on No. 12 Texas A&M for the first qualifying round of the ITA National Team Indoors on Friday in College Station, Texas.
