No. 44 Men's Tennis Blows Past South Alabama 4-3
April 12, 2003
FRESNO, Calif. - No. 44 Fresno State improved its winning streak to seven matches with a 4-3 win over 57th-ranked South Alabama on an unseasonably cool and blustery Saturday afternoon at the Wathen Tennis Center.
The win streak is the team's longest since the 1999-00 season, when the Bulldogs won a program-record 18 in a row.
The Jaguars (14-7) had their own six-match winning streak stopped.
Fresno State (14-6) started fast by taking two of the three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead heading into singles. The Bulldogs' No. 2 and 3 doubles teams both provided victories.
In singles, the Bulldogs jumped ahead 3-0 when Greg Shearer at No. 3 and Andy Sinn at No. 5 both recorded easy victories. The team win was clinched when Alex Krohn took out Jorgen Vestli 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6.
South Alabama added wins at Nos. 2 and 4 after the outcome had already been decided to make the final score 4-3.
Fresno State next takes the court Friday when it hosts No. 26 Pepperdine on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center.
