'Dogs Kickoff 2014
The Fresno State men's tennis team opens its 2014 dual season with Cal Poly and St. Mary's this weekend. The Bulldogs first face Cal Poly on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in Moraga, Calif., before taking on St. Mary's on its home court the next day at 12 p.m.

About the Competition
This is the second year in a row that Fresno State has kicked off its spring dual season with St. Mary's and Cal Poly. Last season the Bulldogs hosted the two teams in Fresno for opening weekend at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. Despite falling to both teams last year the Bulldogs lead both the Mustangs (17-7) and the Gaels (11-2) all-time. Cal Poly and St. Mary's are set to face off on Friday, Jan. 17 before squaring off with the 'Dogs this weekend.

On the Road
The Bulldogs open their 2014 spring season with five dual matches over two weeks. After facing Cal Poly and St. Mary's in Moraga this weekend, Fresno State heads to Eugene, Ore. to take on the nationally ranked Oregon Ducks and Idaho.

Home Opener
After opening the season on the road, the Bulldogs are set to host UC Irvine for their home opener on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Sierra Racquet Club. Fresno State then turns around the next day to face No. 49 San Diego State for their first MW match of the year at 12 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

Austin Enters Second Season
Head coach Evan Austin enters his second season at the helm of the Fresno State men's tennis program. In his first year at the reigns, Austin led the Bulldogs to a fifth place finish in their first year in the Mountain West with a 2-4 record. Austin also guided the 'Dogs to their highest ITA ranking of No. 50, which came on Jan. 3, 2013. Under Austin's leadership one Bulldog was named to All-Mountain West singles team at the conclusion of season.

Austin welcomes the addition of four new Bulldogs to the roster this year. Freshman John Darmstaedter, Alexandros Georgios Vakouftsis, Eric Komati and Ethan Lopez will join the three returners for their first dual season with Fresno State this spring. Darmstaedter and Lopez joined the 'Dogs in August, 2013 and competed in all the fall tournaments while Komati and Vakouftsis are new additions this spring.
