De Villiers Named WAC Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference named Rikus de Villiers the WAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday.

De Villiers' dramatic three-set victory over Alexis Klegou played an integral role in the Bulldogs' monumental 4-3 upset of No. 12 Texas A&M, in College Station, Texas, on Saturday. He followed that performance with a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory over Oscar Podlewski of Rice the following day.

He recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory over Ivan Garcia-Castro of Pacific earlier in the week, to bring his record for the week 3-0.

The junior from Durban, South Africa, also went 3-0 in doubles action with Remi Boutillier, including an 8-6 upset of No. 18 Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo of Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Wednesday, as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take on the Cal Bears.
