DENVER, Colo. - Fresno State men's tennis student-athlete Remi Boutillier, who is ranked No. 14 nationally in singles, was named the Verizon WAC Player of the Week for Jan. 30. The senior dominated last weekend's three-game stint at home by winning three singles and three doubles matches against No. 61 Saint Mary's, Nevada and No. 48 Santa Clara.
Boutillier and partner Jean-Charles Diame clinched the doubles point in a nail-biting match against Saint Mary's No. 1 duo Maxime Olivan and Joakim Nordstrom, 9-7. Boutillier defeated Saint Mary's Maxime Olivan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The team returned for the second half of the doubleheader against Nevada for their first conference match. He clinched the doubles point again, this time with partner, Francis Alcantara, over Nevada's Wessism Derbel and Fernando Sunago, 8-2. Boutillier clinched the team win in singles against Nevada's 55th-ranked Derbel, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
On Sunday, Boutillier and Alcantara started off the Bulldogs' victory when they bested Santa Clara's John Lambel and Ilya Osintsev, 8-4. In singles, Boutillier was the last match of the weekend, coming from behind in a thrilling defeat of Lambel, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The Bulldogs return to courts on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to face-off against San Francisco at 3 p.m.
