Men's Tennis 42nd in Latest Rankings
April 16, 2003 FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team remained at No. 21 while the men's team improved to 42nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released today. The women (12-7) have been ranked in the top 25 since Feb. 5. They were as high as 16th for most of March before dropping to No. 25 in the beginning of April. Other ranked WAC women's teams include No. 41 Tulsa and No. 57 Boise State. The Bulldogs are currently in the midst of a five-match winning streak, their longest of the year. They wrap up the regular season Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against Utah at the Wathen Tennis Center. The men's team (14-6) jumped two spots from 44th to 42nd, due mostly to their seven-match winning streak, the team's longest since the 1999-00 season. Fresno State hosts No. 24 Pepperdine on Friday and are in search of just its second win over a top 25 ranked team since the beginning of last year. The other WAC men's teams to appear in the poll are No. 33 Rice, No. 47 Tulsa, No. 51 SMU and No. 55 Boise State. The Bulldog men also complete their regular season on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Cal Poly at 9 a.m. and Nevada at 2 p.m.
Both teams will compete in the WAC Tournament in Boise, Idaho, next week. The Fresno State women are the defending champion.
