'Dogs End Regular Season at Nevada & Utah State
After closing home play on a five-match win streak, the Fresno State men's tennis team (12-8, 3-3 MW) looks to carry momentum on the road as they close regular season play with two Mountain West matches at Nevada and Utah State this weekend. The Bulldogs first square off with the Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday at 12 p.m., and then travel to face Utah State for their second dual of the year against the Aggies on Sunday.
About the Competition
Nevada (16-4, 2-2 MW) is coming a 4-0 win over Sacramento State after dropping a 4-2 conference match to No. 68 New Mexico on April 13. Senior Victor Ouvrard leads Nevada into the weekend with a 16-1 dual mark. The No. 45 nationally ranked doubles duo of Ouvrard and Robert Allan heads the doubles charge, with a 14-2 record in dual action. Fresno State defeated the Wolf Pack 4-3 in 2013 and leads Nevada 12-0 all-time.
Utah State (9-13, 0-5 MW) has lost its last five duals, including three-straight losses to MW opponents- Nevada, No. 68 New Mexico and Air Force. Freshman Sebastian Schneider leads the Aggies with a 12-5 dual record. This will be the second matchup of the two teams this year, when they faced earlier this spring in a neutral site match the Bulldogs won 4-3. Fresno State leads Utah State 9-0 all-time.
Sophomore Nikolas Papic leads the Bulldogs with a 12-4 dual record in singles play, he is 4-2 at No. 5 and 3-0 at the No. 2 slot. Freshman Eric Komati has a winning record at Nos. 3-5 and is currently on a four-match win streak. Senior Sam MacNeil and junior Sai Kartik Nakireddi are split at the top spot this spring. MacNeil is currently 4-4 at No. 1, while Kartik is 7-4.
After concluding regular season play this weekend, the Bulldogs are set to host the 2014 MW Tennis Championships at Sierra Sport and Racquet Club next week, April 23-27.
