Tennis Sweeps Top WAC Honors

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The 2012 Western Athletic Conference announced the men's women's tennis award winners, as selected by the league's head coaches, Thursday night at the WAC Tennis Tournament banquet. For the women Fresno State's Marianne Jodoin was named WAC Player of the Year, Hawai`i's Jamie Pawid was named Freshman of the Year and Fresno State's Simon Thibodeau earned Coach of the Year honors. Jodoin, who is currently ranked No. 41 nationally, went 27-8 overall on the season. She posted a perfect 3-0 mark vs. WAC opponents and is 3-4 on the season vs. ranked opponents. She was named WAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week six times this season and WAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for October. Jodoin also teamed with Laura Pola at No. 1 doubles to earn second team all-WAC honors this season. Jodoin was named WAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year last season. Pawid went 16-6 overall record during the season, including a perfect 4-0 mark vs. WAC opponents. She earned first team all-WAC honors in doubles play, along with teammate Barbara Pinterova, and was named WAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for November. In his ninth season at the helm, Thibodeau led the Bulldogs to a 13-8 mark, including a 3-0 record against WAC opponents. With a national ranking of No. 51, Fresno State is the top seed in this week's WAC Tournament. This is the sixth time he has earned the award. For the men, Fresno State's Remi Boutillier was named WAC Player of the Year, Nevada's Moez Echargui was named Freshman of the Year and Fresno State's head coach Jay Udwadia earned Coach of the Year honors. Boutillier, who is currently ranked No. 26 in the nation, went 25-6 overall on the season and 4-1 in WAC play. He was named WAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Month in October and November, and was the WAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on four occasions. Going into the WAC Tournament, he currently has 96 singles wins and 100 doubles wins in his career.
In his eighth season at the helm, Udwadia led the Bulldogs to an 18-4 mark, including a 5-0 record against WAC opponents. With a national ranking of No. 33, Fresno State is the top seed in this week's WAC Tournament.
