ATHENS, Ga. - Fresno State's Remi Boutillier and Francis Alcantara lost a tough three-set match to Georgia Tech's third-ranked duo of Kevin King and Juan Spir in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Doubles Championships Thursday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Yellow Jacket duo just edged the feisty Bulldog tandem 7-6, 5-7, 6-2. Boutillier and Alcantara end their seasons with a 15-11 doubles record together.
The first set was one that went back-and-forth and eventually went to a tiebreaker. King and Spir were able to make quick work there, winning the tiebreaker 7-1 to take the opening set.
Fresno State went up 5-3 right away in the second set before the Jackets' duo got back a service break. Then with King serving, Georgia Tech tied it up at 5.
Fresno State won the serve back to go up 6-5 and got the break point back on Spir's serve to win set No. 2 7-5 and force a third set.
Set No. 3 started out tied at two games apiece before the Yellow Jackets went up a service break in game 5 and then eventually took a 4-2 lead. After another service break to make it 5-2, King served for the match and was able to put away Boutillier and Alcantara to clinch the match.
