Coupe Hired as Men's Tennis Assistant Coach

    Sept. 3, 2002

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's tennis coach Brad Dancer completed his coaching staff with the announcement of Damon Coupe as assistant coach.

Coupe comes to Fresno State from Sacramento State, where he coached during the 2001-02 season. He was assistant coach for part of the season, then was named interim head coach after former coach Chris Evers was placed on leave. Coupe guided the Hornets to a 12-11 record, a Big Sky Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, where Sacramento State fell to Stanford in the first round.

"I'm very excited to have Damon as my assistant," Dancer said. "He's a guy that wants to be a head coach some day, plus he has his experience at Sacramento State. He helped lead them to the NCAA's, and he's not going to be afraid to challenge the guys and get them to reach their potential."

A Sacramento, Calif., native, Coupe played at San Jose State from 1992-93 then transferred to Sacramento State midway through the 1993-94 season. He graduated from Sacramento State in 1997 with a degree in marketing.
