FRESNO, Calif. --- Fresno State head men's tennis coach Evan Austin announced the Bulldogs 2013-14 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm extremely excited about the challenges our schedule presents for this season," said Austin. "We will have a number of tough road tests which should really prepare us for Mountain West play later in the year."
The Bulldogs open up their fall tournament schedule next weekend, Sept. 13-15 at the Napa Invitational. Fresno State then returns home the following weekend to host its annual Bulldog Invitational at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, Sept. 27-29.
The 'Dogs are set to compete in four more individual tournaments this fall, concluding its tournament schedule at the Pacific Fall Invite in Stockton, Calif., Nov. 1-3.
Spring match play will begin in January with five straight road matches starting with Cal Poly (Jan. 17) and St. Mary's (Jan. 18). The Bulldogs then head to Eugene, Ore. two weeks later to face Oregon twice (Jan. 31 & Feb. 2) and Idaho (Feb. 1).
The 'Dogs spring home opener will take place on Feb. 8 against UC Irvine at 1 p.m. Fresno State then hosts Pacific one week later and New Mexico on Feb. 21 for its Mountain West opener at 10 a.m.
In the last week of February Fresno State will battle in the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in La Jolla, Calif., before returning home to host UC Davis on March 8. The Bulldogs then continue conference play with road matches against Utah State (March 14) and Boise State (March 23).
The Bulldogs have a three match home stand in April with Air Force (April 6), UNLV (April 12) and Sacramento State (April 13). Fresno State then concludes MW play with two road matches at Nevada (April 18) and Utah State (April 20).
Other nonconference teams Fresno State will face include San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Santa Barbara and Arizona.
In its second year in the Mountain West, Fresno State will host the 2014 Mountain West Championships April 24-27. The tournament will be held at the Sierra Racquet Club.
With four returning Bulldogs and addition of three new players, Austin is excited for the upcoming season. Fresno State returns Felipe Fritz, Nikolas Papic, Sai Kartik Nakireddi and Sam MacNeil and the welcomes newcomers John Darmstaedter, Ethan Lopez and Adriaan DuToit.
"We've got a number of young and hungry players who feel they have a lot to prove this year, and we're looking forward to the challenge," added Austin.
