FRESNO, Calif. ---Fresno State head men's tennis coach Evan Austin announced Wednesday the 2012-13 Bulldog tennis schedule.
"We're very excited about the challenges the 2012-2013 schedule presents," said Austin. "It's very likely we'll compete against 10-12 nationally ranked non-conference opponents before Mountain West Conference play begins. We know we need to put in a great deal of work this fall and early in the spring season so we are prepared to compete for a conference title by the end of the year."
The Bulldogs will begin play in the fall by traveling to four different tournaments around California including the Napa Invitational, UC Davis Invite, ITA Regional Championships and Pacific Tiger Invitational.
Spring match play will begin in January with home matchups against Saint Mary's, Cal Poly, and UC Riverside. The 'Dogs will then compete in the ITA Kick Off Weekend in Los Angeles from Jan. 25-27 against USC, Georgia Tech and Mountain West member San Diego State.
Fresno State will play two road matches on Feb. 2 and 3 at UCLA and UC Irvine before returning to the Wathen Tennis Center for a four match home stand. The 'Dogs will take on San Diego State, Auburn, Pacific and Sacramento State in front of the Red Wave.
The Bulldogs will then hit a change of pace when they participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles in La Jolla, Calif. The 'Dogs are first slated to face the Owls of Rice on Feb. 28, with the other matchups to be determined from Mar. 1-3.
Another four match home stand will ensue against four non-conference opponents. Fresno State will take on Hawai'i and Washington on Mar. 9 and 11 then Purdue and Iowa on Mar. 13 and 22.
A trip to Lubbock to play the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Mar. 27 will wrap up non-conference play.
The Wathen Tennis Center will host three Mountain West dual matches in Fresno State's inaugural season as a part of the conference. Nevada will travel to play Fresno on Mar. 31 at noon and the 'Dogs will face Boise State on Apr. 14. (Fresno State faces San Diego State earlier in the season on Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.)
The Bulldogs will play road Mountain West matches at Air Force (Apr. 5), New Mexico (Apr. 7), and UNLV (Apr. 20).
Colorado Springs will be the sight of the 2013 Mountain West Tennis Championships from Apr. 25-28 with the Bulldogs looking to win the championship in Fresno State's inaugural year as Mountain West members.
