Bulldogs Advance in Doubles at H.E.B. Invitational

The Bulldog duo began the morning in doubles competition of the A-draw facing off against Bley/Mueller of Baylor. Siwy/Zapletal controlled the match and went on to win 8-3, to secure a spot in the round of 16 which is played the same day.
"I was very impressed with the way we played in doubles," Assistant Coach Lee Nickell said," We have a good opportunity tomorrow to continue to play well against a tough TCU team."
Siwy and Zapletal went on to face Ballok/Sottocorno of Tulsa in their second match together during this early fall season. The `Dogs continued their success together with an 8-4 victory over the team from Tulsa, earning a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Saturday against Brighiu/Simon of TCU.
In singles action Siwy picked up a win in his first match of the fall season. Against Piotr Olechowski of Louisiana-Lafeyette, Siwy won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the round of 32 of the A-Draw of the singles tournament.
In his second singles match of the day Siwy battled Jordan Rux of Baylor before dropping the match 6-3, 6-3.
"We had a hard time doing the little things right in singles," said Nickell. "We had some game point chances, but we weren't very disciplined on big points."
Zapletal was also featured in the A-Draw of the singles tournament. Zapletal began the fall season with a match against Kriegler Brink of TCU. The Fresno State junior fought hard but Brink went on to win the match 6-4, 6-1, sending Zapletal to the consolation bracket of the tournament.
Zapletal then faced Roman Stoisavljevic of New Mexico State. After dropping the first set, Zapletal forced a tie breaker in the second set before dropping the match 6-4, 7-6 (4).
After finishing the day with a record of 2-0 in doubles the `Dogs have earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Saturday.
