Stephen Abas

Stephen Abas is entering his third year of coaching at Fresno State. He completed his final season of wrestling in 2001 by capturing his third national title. His long list of accomplishments include being a four-time All-American and four-time conference/regional champion. After winning his third national title he became the first Fresno State three- time champ and also the 40th wrestler in NCAA history to win three NCAA titles. Abas joined his brother Gerry as the only two Bulldogs to be four-time All-Americans. In his junior and senior year, he completed two perfect seasons, going 34-0 and 35-0, respectively. Abas won 106 consecutive matches in the 125 division and he holds the Fresno State record for wins in a career with 144. He is also No. 1 in career win percentage (.973). While he coaches, Abas is in training for the 2004 Olympics and completing his liberal studies degree.
