Fresno, Calif. - Junior Greg Gifford has been named to the 2005-06 All-Academic Team as named by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) announced Tuesday. A Construction Management major, Gifford met all of the academic and athletic requirements for the national team.

Gifford was one of only 68 wrestlers nationally named to the team. To qualify, a wrestler had to have above a 3.2 GPA and be an NCAA qualifier, or have a 3.0 GPA and finish the season as an All-American. Gifford is completing his senior year academically with a 3.41 GPA, and has one year of eligibility remaining.

This is the second major academic award that Gifford has received following the 2005-06 wrestling season. Gifford was also selected as the George Ilg award winner, given to one graduating male and female athlete at Fresno State that represent the best that the university has to offer in academics, athletics, and community work.

The Ilg award will be presented next Monday at the Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Awards Dinner, held at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Fresno. The dinner begins at 6 p.m.
