    LOGAN, Utah - The top two teams in the Western Athletic Conference standings went head-to-head on Thursday night and after opening the second half with a 19-4 run, Fresno State women's basketball ran away with a 90-67 win over Utah State.

    "Our coaches prepared us well for this game," said sophomore Taylor Thompson. "We knew this was the team to and coming in they were number one in the WAC. We knew we needed to prove people wrong and prove that we are number one, which is what we did."

    After playing close in the first half, which saw five lead changes and a tied game five times, the Bulldogs pulled ahead using their 3-point shooting and fast tempo.

    "We started playing our tempo late in the first half," said Thompson. "We started playing our game. We started stealing, playing fast and making good shots."

    The `Dogs shot 52 percent from the field and made eight 3-pointers. Fresno State scored a season-high 90 points against the Aggies. The Bulldogs had five score in double digits. Thompson and sophomore Ki-Ki Moore led the team with 17 points each. Seniors Blakely Goldberg and Veronica Wilson both added 11 points.

    Junior Rosie Moult recorded her second double-double of the season after scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Fresno State outrebounded the Aggies 45-34.

    The Bulldogs got their first lead after Moore drained her first 3-pointer of the night. The `Dogs went a 12-4 run increasing their lead by 10 over the Aggies with 10:46 left in the first half.

    Utah State regained the lead 27-25 with 4:56 left in the first half, but Fresno State took a one-point lead at half time. The Bulldogs are 11-2 when leading at half time. Moore led the team with 10 first half points, while Thompson added eight points.

     

     

    Moult and Thompson recorded five rebounds each as the `Dogs outrebounded the Aggies 22-21 in the first half.

    Fresno State opened the second half with a 19-4 run that gave the Bulldogs a 16-point lead with 14:39 to play. Moult sank her second trey of the night as the `Dogs increased their lead by 20 over the Aggies with 10:44 left in the game.

    Freshman Robin Draper's layup gave dogs season-high 90 points as the `Dogs won 90-67 over Utah State. Fresno State finishes the road trip against Idaho on Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. PT.
