FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team extended their winning streak to 10 games on Thursday night after defeating Idaho 76-68. The Bulldogs improve to 21-4 on the season, which is quickly becoming one of the best records in program history. The `Dogs also remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play with a mark of 9-0.
Fresno State ran away with their 21st win of the season with a late run to put an end to the Vandals hopes of an upset on the `Dogs home court. The Bulldogs are 10-1 at the Save Mart Center and their only loss was to then No. 4 Stanford.
Sophomore Ki-Ki Moore led the team with 23 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Her last double-double was against Idaho on the road earlier this season. The 5-8 guard also recorded a team-high five steals.
Preseason All-WAC selections Taylor Thompson and Rosie Moult rounded out the `Dogs scoring in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Thompson also contributed four steals and four assists.
Fresno State finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field and made 52-of-76 points in the paint. After a program tying 18 treys against Nevada last week, the Bulldogs were limited to just four 3-pointers.
Idaho jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead and the `Dogs answered with a 10-0 run to take the lead. The Bulldog early run was aided by five steal in the first five minutes that resulted in eight points.
With 12 minutes to play until half time, Fresno State pulled ahead by 10 leading Idaho 18-8.
Fresno State led Idaho 38-32 at half time with Thompson leading the team with nine points. The Bulldogs forced 16 first half turnovers and recorded 10 steals. The `Dogs also scored 32 of 38 points in the paint.
Early in the second half, the Vandals cut the Bulldogs lead to three points with a little over 18 minutes to play. The Bulldogs lead grew back to double digits with the help of two free throws from freshman Alex Sheedy.
The game got close again with 12:50 left on the clock. Fresno State and the Bulldogs battled back and forth in a one possession game for the next five minutes. Idaho pulled within two of the Bulldogs and then took the lead 57-56 with 10 minutes to play on a layup. Moult gave the lead back to Fresno State with a layup.
Fresno State went on a 9-1 run late in the game pulling ahead of the Vandals with four minutes to play. Moore delivered a 3-pointer to give the `Dogs a double digit lead.
The Bulldogs sealed the win with a 6-0 run in the final 19 second of the game. The `Dogs host second place Utah State on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The Aggies are two games behind the Bulldogs.
