CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 2011-12 women's basketball season came to an end sooner than Fresno State had wanted after the Bulldogs lost in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The `Dogs(28-6) fell to Georgetown 61-56 on Sunday afternoon.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate Georgetown," said head coach Adrian Wiggins. "I thought they did a good job of playing the way they wanted to play. They made the plays in the end and I wish them the best of luck in the tournament. I am very proud of our team. I could not have coached a better group of young ladies. They are a class act on the floor and off. I had the time of my life coaching them this year."

Fresno State recorded a program-best 28 wins and also had the fewest losses in a season with six. The Bulldogs made their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and won their fifth WAC Title in a row.

"It was a great year, it was a remarkable year for us," said Wiggins. "I am just very very proud of them."

The `Dogs were led by WAC Player of the Year Ki-Ki Moore who scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was junior Rosie Moult with 12 and Madison Parrish with 10 points.

Early on the game was tied 3-3 before Georgetown pulled ahead a 9-0 run. The Bulldogs responded by scoring seven unanswered points bring the `Dogs within a possession of the Hoyas.

Moult, a WAC All-Tournament selection, scored eight of the Bulldogs first 13 points. She made two treys in the first half for the Fresno State.

The Bulldogs trailed Georgetown 33-23 at the half. Moore and the Hoyas' Tia Magee led all scorers at the half with nine points.

Fresno State came out in the second half playing aggressive defense and never gave up on offense. The `Dogs came back from an 17-point deficit to make it a two possession game in the final minutes.

Georgetown got into foul trouble late in the second half and Parrish capitalized making 10-of-10 form the free throw line before fouling out. The Bulldogs finished the game making 13-of-19 from the free throw line.

Moore led the charge late in the second half. The sophomore grabbed a rebound and took it to the other end for an easy layup. Moore scored another layup on the net possession as the `Dogs trailed by three. She started an 11-4 run in the last seven minutes of the game.

"We couldn't stay out in the perimeter the whole game," said Moore. "At some point we had to start attacking the basket."

The Hoyas held on to win 61-56 over the 'Dogs and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Georgetown's Magee led the Hoyas with 17 points, while Adria Crawford recorded nine rebounds.

Seniors Blakely Goldberg and Veronica Wilson contributed six points and five rebounds. The two seniors have a career record of 53-14 over the past two seasons.
