FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's basketball team fell to fifth ranked Stanford, 93-59. The Bulldogs are 5-3 on the season and conclude December Madness on Dec. 8 against No. 18 Oklahoma.
The `Dogs forced the Cardinal to turn the ball over 16 times and recorded seven steals. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures. Freshmen Alex Sheedy, Madison Parrish and senior Veronica Wilson led the team with 11 points each. Sophomore Taylor Thompson added 10 points. Wilson shot 100 percent making 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Stanford opened the game with six unanswered points before Sheedy made a spin move and a layup. The Bulldogs trailed the Cardinal 6-2 early in the game. Stanford's lead grew to double figures with an 8-2 run with 13:20 left on the clock in the first half.
Wilson hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the first half. Wilson and Sheedy led the team with eight points each in the first 20 minutes of the game. Moult recorded three steals and the `Dogs forced eight Cardinal turnovers. Fresno State headed to the locker room trailing Stanford, 56-27.
Late in the second half, the Bulldogs tried to chip away at Stanford's lead by draining 4-for-5 3-pointers in a two minutes span. In the end, Stanford defeated the Bulldogs 93-59.
The Bulldogs face another ranked opponent in the Save Mart Center on Thursday. The `Dogs host No. 18 Oklahoma on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
