Alex Sheedy Blog: Holiday Fun

    Jan. 4, 2014

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's basketball player Alex Sheedy is keeping a season-long blog on the team and their experiences both on and off the court. Here is her third entry of the 2013-14 season.

    Hey Bulldog fans,

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and have a wonderful and happy New Year. Sorry it's taken so long to get this blog up, finals and holidays and all sorts of things kept putting me off. My bad.

So, as you all are aware, conference has started! Yes, and we are currently sitting 2-0 so far with a great win against UNLV on New Year's day in Vegas. It's always good to start off conference with a win. Spending New Years Eve in Las Vegas may sound like a lot of fun, but having a game at 12p.m. really limits the options of New Years revelry. I managed to stay awake and see the fireworks though, which was pretty exciting because my hotel room had the perfect, uninterrupted view of the strip. I managed to get a few cool photos and videos.

I hope you can all make it out to the Save Mart Center this year for all our conference home games. We love our fans! We really do have a dedicated and awesome fan base, so don't forget to spread the word and help Dan Bushy and the Hoop Club with promotion and all the amazing things that they do for the team.

Congratulations to my teammate and good friend Mo [Moriah Faulk] for getting MW Player of the Week the other week, she really played amazing and was the spark that got us over the line in that Portland game. I am so excited for the rest of the season, we have so many players that contribute to this team in every aspect and our balance is what is going to make us champions.

Wanted to give a shout out to our football team this year. Congratulations on winning the MW Championship for the second year in a row. They played a great season, and I wish all the seniors and prospective NFL players all the best of luck in their careers.

So, we are currently still on break from school at the moment. It's always a little weird and very boring at this time of year because no one is around and we all get a bit envious at the people who get to spend so much time at home. Basketball is a pretty demanding season, but it's also a really fun time of the year because a lot of people's families come to visit. Unfortunately, Bree [Farley], Jacinta [Vandenberg] and I didn't get to see our families for the holidays this year, but luckily almost everyone else did.

Christmas this year was pretty fun. On Christmas Eve, Robin Draper's family invited Bree, Toni [Smith], Jacinta and myself over for dinner and it was so much fun. We had a great time. We had some amazing food and had a cookie decorating competition after. Robin's parents were the judges, and personally, I thought they judged it great. Maybe that's just because I won. Jacinta doesn't think they judged well at all, probably because she came last. Needless to say, it was very funny. On Christmas day, Bree, Jay and I went to our friend John's house, and he and his wife had prepared an awesome brunch for us. The food was amazing. Afterwards they taught us a really competitive and fun card game called `Nerts' or something. And later that night Bree and Jay cooked dinner, roast lamb and veggies, while I cooked a gingerbread cake for dessert with ice cream. It was a really great night with two of my best friends.

Well, hopefully you will all wish us luck for the rest of conference, starting with our next game against Boise or Colorado, depending on when this is posted.
