FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh introduced Raegan Pebley as the new head women's basketball coach on Monday afternoon at a press conference held in the Save Mart Center.
"Raegan Pebley was the complete package," said Boeh. "She was an outstanding player in her own right at the University of Colorado. In over a period of time, she took a program from nonexistence to one of the most respected and top programs in the Western Athletic Conference and into post-season play, while her students excelled academically."
Pebley, the 2012 RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Region 7 Coach of the Year and 2011 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, becomes the ninth head coach in Bulldog history, replacing Adrian Wiggins.
After revitalizing the Utah State program in 2003 that had been dormant for 16 years, Pebley guided the Aggies to a program record 21 wins last year and was one of eight coaches in the nation to be a finalist for the 2012 WBCA National Coach of the Year award.
Pebley jumped into action shortly after landing in Fresno. She spent the morning meeting administration, staff and the team. Once the meetings died down, it was time for Pebley to meet the Fresno media for the first time at her first press conference as the new coach of the Bulldogs.
"I am very excited to be here and I thank you for all of the support I have received," said Pebley. "The amount of people and the attention in this room not only shows support of where Fresno State basketball has been, but where it is headed."
After the press conference, Pebley and her family headed to the Bulldog Foundation Community Room for a reception. Pebley was greeted by eager Bulldog fans, donors and staff, who were excited to meet her.
Pebley wrapped up the day with one-on-one interviews with local media members and taking part in a photo shoot for marketing and promotional material.
The Bulldogs and Pebley hit the gym in the next few weeks for individual workouts. With a new coach also comes a new conference as the `Dogs enter the Mountain West Conference next year.
