FRESNO, Calif. - Every year Fresno State women's basketball coach Adrian Wiggins wants to put together a schedule that will help prepare his team to win a WAC championship. Wiggins feels he has done just that for the upcoming 2008-09 season when the Bulldogs defend their first-ever WAC championship.

This years' schedule is highlighted by a nonconference home game against Big East foe West Virginia on December 20. The Mountaineers were 25-8 last year and finished the season ranked No. 17 in the AP poll. A week before the Bulldogs play host to West Virginia, they will play at Stanford on December 13. The Cardinals finished last year ranked No. 2 in the country and lost in the NCAA championship game to Tennessee.

"We are excited about our upcoming schedule," Wiggins said. "This is a schedule that will challenge us as we prepare to defend our WAC championship. We want to grow and play the kind of competition that will give us a chance to get better. This year's schedule does just that."

Fresno State's non conference schedule consists of teams from the Big West, Mountain West, Big Sky, Conference USA, Atlantic 10, Southland, Big East, West Coast and Pac 10 conferences. The Bulldogs also could potentially play eight games against teams that played in the post season last year.

Home games against last year's NCAA tournament teams are against UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 20) and West Virginia (Dec. 20). The Bulldogs also host TCU (Dec. 4) and Boise State (Jan. 5). Both teams played in the WNIT.

On November 28-29 the Bulldogs travel to Dallas, Tex., where they will participate in the SMU tournament with Charlotte, SMU and Sam Houston State. SMU played in the NCAA tournament last year while Charlotte was invited to the WNIT tournament. The Bulldogs open the tournament on Friday against Charlotte while Sam Houston State plays SMU in the other opening round game. On Saturday the two winners and losers will play each other.

Fresno State hosts Cal-State Northridge (Dec. 9), Loyola Marymount (Dec. 18) and December 29 against Long Beach State. Other road nonconference games are against Cal-State Bakersfield (Nov. 14), Sacramento State (Nov. 23), Pacific (Dec. 6) and UNLV (Jan. 2).

The conference season begins Jan. 5 at the Save Mart Center when the Bulldogs host Boise State. This year's WAC tournament will be held in Reno, Nev.
