    FRESNO, Calif.- For the second straight year the Fresno State women's basketball team opens the season on the road as they play at Big West champion UCSB and Pac-10 foe USC on Friday and Sunday.

    The Bulldogs are 18-19 in season openers and they have won four of their last five season openers. Both games can be heard on 790 ESPN Radio, the Deuce. Friday's game at UCSB starts at 7 p.m. and Sunday's game at USC starts at 5:30 p.m.

    Fresno State vs. USCB and USC
    The Bulldogs lead the overall series with UC Santa Barbara, 19-8. Fresno State has won three of the last four meetings, with the two most recent wins being a 71-54 win last year at the Save Mart Center and a 78-59 win in the 2006 WNIT Tournament. Fresno State leads the overall series 4-2. In the most recent meeting in 1998 USC won 65-59.

    Scouting UCSB
    The Gauchos are seeking their 15th straight postseason berth this year. Lindsay Gottlieb, the 2008 Big West Coach of the Year, is in her second season at UCSB and will coach a team that returns one starter, eight letterwinners and five newcomers.

    Scouting USC
    USC finished 17-15 last year, which was USC's sixth consecutive winning season and fifth straight with at least 17 wins, five Women of Troy earned All-Pac-10 honors. Two of those players - point guard Camille LeNoir and center Nadia Parker - have graduated. The other three - Ashley Corral, Briana Gilbreath and Heather Oliver - accounted for almost 40 percent of USC's scoring in 2008-09.

    Wrapping up Exhibition Play
    In Fresno State's lone exhibition game, the Bulldogs defeated Fresno Pacific 57-30. Jaleesa Ross had 11 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to lead the Dogs.

    Preseason WAC Polls
    For the first time in school history the Bulldogs were picked to finish first in the WAC in the preseason polls.The coaches picked Fresno State first and the media picked the Dogs second behind Louisiana Tech. For the second straight year Jaleesa Ross was named to the Preseason All-WAC team by the media and coaches and Hayley Munro was named to the Preseason second team by the media and coaches.

    Bulldogs Get National Recognition
    After making two straight trips to the NCAA tournament and winning the 2008-09 WAC regular season and tournament championship, the Bulldogs are getting noticed by the national media as they received three votes in the Preseason AP Poll. It is the first time the Bulldogs have been in any Preseason national poll. The Dogs also received one vote in the Preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll that was released on Wednesday.

    Bulldogs Return Wealth of Experience
    This years Bulldog team returns nine players off last years WAC championship and NCAA tournament team. Leading the group of returnees is two-time All-WAC honoree Jaleesa Ross. She is the two-time WAC tournament MVP. Hayley Munro earned second-team All-WAC last year. Also returning is seniors Brittny Jones, LaShay Fears, Joh-Teena Filipe and Ashley Walker. Along with Ross and Munro, the returning juniors are Marnique Arnold, Taja Edwards and Emma Andrews.
