The Fresno State women's basketball team faces the Oregon Ducks on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. on the back half of its two-game road swing in the Pacific Northwest this weekend.
The 'Dogs (6-3) enter its matchup versus the Ducks (0-8) still in search for its first road game victory after falling to the Portland Pilots 76-69 on Friday evening.
Fresno State opened up strong against Portland shooting the ball well, including hitting six consecutive 3-pointers to close the first half. The 'Dogs held a 45-32 lead at halftime, but it wasn't enough as they could not overcome its second half struggles to grab its first the W on the road. The Pilots outscored the 'Dogs 44-24 in the second half to take home the win.
Fresno State was outrebounded 40-32 in the loss, the third straight game in which the 'Dogs to have been outrebounded by its opponent. Although, it was the first loss the 'Dogs suffered while losing the battle for the boards. The 'Dogs began the season owning the rebound advantage in its first five games.
The 'Dogs and Ducks met for the first time since 1986 last season at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State came out victorious with a 81-71 win behind a single-game record of 17 3-pointers. It was Fresno State's first victory over a Pac-12 team since defeating Arizona in 2006. Since that win, Fresno State has a 3-2 record against the Pac-12 with both losses coming nationally-ranked Stanford.
► Fresno State's game versus Oregon will be its fourth and final game against teams from the Pac-12 in its 2012-13 nonconference schedule. The 'Dogs are 2-1 this season against the conference.
► In seven meeting the Ducks own a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series. Neither team has lost on its home court in the series. The ’Dogs defeated UO 81-71 at the Save Mart Center last season.
► Junior Taylor Thompson was named the Fresno State Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the 'Dogs to a 2-0 record last week. Thompson leads the Mountain West with 4.0 steals per game, her mark also ranks in the top-10 among all Division-I players.
► The 'Dogs will host its next game at the Save Mart Center in its first conference game versus New Mexico on Jan. 12, four weeks from its last home game.
