COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Fresno State sophomore guard Moriah Faulk was named Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday morning for games played from Dec. 9-15, 2013. This is Faulk's first MW weekly honor.
Faulk scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in leading Fresno State to its third-straight victory with a 76-67 win over Portland on Dec. 14.
Faulk scored 17 points in the first half, which had already beat her previous career-high for points in a game that was 14 set at Seton Hall at the end of November.
After Fresno State jumped out to a 41-29 first-half lead, Portland came back in the second half to the Bulldog lead down to 47-46 with 13:32 to play. Faulk answered for the Bulldog by hitting 3-pointers on Fresno State's next two possessions, starting a 8-0 Bulldog run that got their lead back up to nine points and Fresno State went on to win the game by nine points.
Her 27 points are the most scored by a Bulldog in a game this season. She drained five 3-pointers in the game, which is also a career-high for the sophomore and the most by a Bulldog this season.
Coming off the bench Faulk is averaging 12.0 points per game this season and has scored in the double figures in her last five outings.
Fresno State next hosts San Francisco on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Save Mart Center for game No. 4 of the five-game home stand throughout the month of December.
