The Fresno State equestrian Western team qualified for the NCEA National Championships in Waco, Texas from April 18-20, 2013.

Assistant coach Kimberly HewsonBudnik was hired at Fresno State in 2013, as now head coach Eric Hubbard became the Bulldog western coach. The Westlake Village, Calif., native competed at Fresno State from 2008 until graduation in 2013, taking a break from competition during the 2009-10 season.
During the 2014-15 season, Fresno State won the United Equestrian Conference (UEC) championship, and were ranked as high as No. 5 nationally. In April, the Bulldogs capped off the season by reaching the quarterfinals at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championships, falling to eventual national champion South Carolina.
Under the tutelage of Hubbard, HewsonBudnik and assistant western coach Courtney Cruse, freshman Rachel Williams was named the UEC Horsemanship Rider of the Year while two other Bulldogs won the UEC Rider of the Month Award last season. Williams and Taylor Brown were both named All-Americans by the NCEA in 2015. Brown is a two-time All-American recipient, while Williams represented Fresno State in the Sun Circuit Horsemanship Invitational in February 2015.
The Bulldogs registered some big wins during the 2014-15 season, in February Fresno State defeated No. 2 Baylor and in 2015 defeated three teams ranked top six nationally.
As a collegiate athlete at Fresno State HewsonBudnik was a strong leader in both English events, she competed in all 12 Equitation on the Flat events picking up eight wins and 11 Equitation over Fences events her senior year. Earned a career-high score of 93 against TCU while maintaining an average score of 75 during the event. The four-year varsity letter received the Fresno State 2012-13 MVP Award for Equitation over Fences was a Hunt Seat Competition committee member for the Bulldog equestrian team.
HewsonBudnik graduated from Westlake High School where she hails from the same training stable as former Bulldog standout Katie Nenneker. The 2006 freshman I.E.L. overall reserve champion and equitation reserve champion competed internationally for the renowned Foxfield Bridleless, Saddleless Drill Team.
