Western Team Falls Short In 2nd Round
April 14, 2012 By Kelly Mason FRESNO, Calif. - In the Western area, the No. 8 Bulldogs fell to the No. 4 Auburn in the Second Round Consolation bracket Friday evening 7-1 which concluded their 2012 NCEA National Championship competition. After defeating No. 9 seed New Mexico State in the first round 6-2, the No. 8 Bulldogs competed against No. 1 Texas A&M in the First Round Bye game. They fell to the Aggies 8-0. Friday, the Bulldogs competed against No. 4 Auburn in the Second Round Consolation bracket falling 7-1. In a raw score total 1106.5-1084.5, the Bulldogs came close to the Auburn Tigers in multiple match-ups, but only one 'Dog actually earned her point in both Reining and Horsemanship. Senior Allie Warkentin, a native of Fresno, Calif., defeated Auburn's Danielle Long 140.5-132.5 to win her point in Horsemanship. In Reining, Ciara Kozlowski scored a team-high score of 138, falling to her opponent by only .5 of a point. The remainder of the NCEA National Championships will conclude Sunday. The final two Consolation brackets will finalize the third and fifth place finishers. Then the final championship match-ups will take place this afternoon to name the NCEA National Champions in all four events.
