FRESNO, Calif. - Despite outscoring No. 7 Baylor in the raw score 1522-1480.5, the Fresno State equestrian team fell 14-6 to the Bears Friday in Waco, Texas. "The team rode really, really well today," said head coach Collins Daye. "I am very proud of everyone and we just got out ridden. They [Baylor] have been competing since September and this was our first competition so we did a really good job. We are almost there though and I am very happy with how the team is showing." Senior Kimberly HewsonBudnik led the Bulldogs in both English events scoring two points and earning her first MVP honor of the season. She put up very high scores in both Equitation on the Flat (86) and Equitation over Fences (89), winning her MVP in the later. The 'Dogs fell 1-4 in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences, even with multiple high scores by the Bulldog riders. There were a handful of riders who scored in the 80s including: Hannah Flammang on the Flat (84), Dayle Fischer (83) and Hillary West (81) over Fences. In the Western Events, the Bulldog Reining team defeated the Bears 3-2. Fresno State top returners Sydney Coletti (73.5), Lauren Crivelli (71.5), and Ciara Kozlowski (70.5) each won their points in the competition helping contribute to the Bulldogs team total. "Reining really pulled it out today and we are super proud of them," said Daye. "They did an excellent job. Our freshman Sydney Elliott did a great job for her first competition, she put down great trips." Horsemanship was the final event of the day where senior Christa Beezley won her point scoring a 79 beating out her opponent by half of a point. In Horsemanship the Bears defeated the 'Dogs 4-1 to wrap up the competition. "We were just a hair off in a jump or two and we just need to raise it up to one more notch," said Daye. "Baylor put on a beautiful show, it was a really awesome competition and the judging was very accurate. I am very happy with how the competition went today. We can definitely take today and learn from it." The Fresno State equestrian team will conclude its weekend of competition in Texas Saturday in College Station as they compete against Texas A&M.
