FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight year, Fresno State will host the Best of the West Tournament. The Bulldogs will host Delaware State, TCU and Tennessee-Martin. For the Bulldogs, they are resuming their season after a brief break. This tournament-style event is unique to college equestrian and will provide an exciting atmosphere.

Dogs on ESPN Radio
For the second straight year, ESPN radio has partnered with Fresno State to bring Bulldog Equestrian to the fans. Kelly Carr and former Bulldog standout Sarah Woodward will be broadcasting live from the Fresno State Student Horse Center on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. The program will air live on ESPN2 790 AM.

Dual Rings
Some improvements have been made to the Fresno State equestrian complex and the Dogs will be using two rings for the competition this weekend. According to head coach, Becky Malmo the dual rings will allow for a more time efficient and fan friendly event. All Western events will be conducted on one ring, while sumultainously the English events can be held in the adjacent ring.

Dogs Have a Tune-up
To prepare for this week's event, the Bulldogs held an intrasquad meet to fine tune some things. Head coach Becky Malmo was pleased with the performance and improvements heading into this weekend. Since the Dogs have not been in competition since Oct. 27, Malmo felt it was important to have a tune-up to get ready for the event. She was pleased with the results, as several riders showed marked improvement and appread ready for a tough schedule for the next month. Additionally, it gave her an opportunity to take a look at some new horses that have been added to the program.

Looking Ahead
After this week, the Dogs head to Texas where they will take on SMU, Baylor and TCU Feb. 22-24.

Quotes from head coach Becky Malmo, who is in her fourth year as Fresno State's head coach: About this week: "We are excited for this weekend. We are also pleased to celebrate the memory of Scott Smith, whose daughter, Heidi, was a special part of our program. Scott was a big part of our program as a supporter and parent and he will be missed."

"The young ladies have been working hard and we had a great scrimmage last weekend. We have been getting real strong performances from some of our veteran riders like Rebecca Flood, Katie Nenneker, Cambria Kissell, Kirsten Sohns and Keri Blackledge. We have also had some surprises from some of our outstanding freshmen, including, Asheline Beeson, Courtney Thomas, Jill Tebbe, Tarynn Shada and Mallory Hames."

"Join the State - Fresno State!" - The Fresno State equestrian team will host the Best of the West Tournament at the Student Horse Center on campus Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. Competition starts at 8 a.m. on both days and admission is free.
