    Columbia, S.C. - The Fresno State equestrian team rounded up a lot of Academic Awards Friday, when the National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced the 2012 spring and fall semester academic achievers.

    The 2013 NCEA Academic Awards are based on grades from 2012 spring and fall terms. Any student-athlete who participates at an NCEA institution is eligible for nomination for any of the academic awards.

    Fresno State had three riders named to the NCEA Academic First Team, the highest academic achievement one can currently receive in the NCEA. English riders Belle Calkin and Hillary West, along with Western rider Lauren Crivelli were each one of 50 NCEA riders to make the First Team.

    There were three Bulldogs also named to the NCEA Academic Second Team. They were English rider Lanie Madrazo and two Western riders, Kirsten McKillop and Shauna Woodward. Three more Bulldogs were named to the Honorable Mention team, English rider Macy Wilson and Western riders Ciara Kozlowski and Sydney Coletti for their outstanding academic achievements in the classroom.

    The Bulldogs also had more than half of their team named to the NCEA Academic Honor Roll when the 19 riders were announced. The Honor Roll Members included: Lisa Beach, Linne' Beason, Bryn Boyett, Belle Calkin, Lauren Carr, Lauren Crivelli, Antonia Erickson, Hannah Flammang, Rio Haack, Katelyn Haynes, Ciara Kozlowski, Sonya Koch, Lanie Madrazo, Kirsten McKillop, Marisa Mohn, Brigid O'Leary, Hillary West, Shauna Woodward and Macy Wilson.

     

     

    The following criteria should be followed: (1) NCEA Academic First Team - nominated student-athletes must have competed in a minimum of 70% of their schools' meets, not including demonstration or exhibition rides, and the nominated student-athletes must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous Spring and Fall semesters, respectively. (2) NCEA Academic Second Team - nominated student-athletes must have competed in a minimum of 60% of their schools' meets, not including demonstration or exhibition rides, and the nominated-student athletes must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous Spring and Fall semesters, respectively. (3) NCEA Academic Honorable Mention - nominated student-athletes must have competed in a minimum of 50% of their schools' meets, not including demonstration or exhibition rides, and the nominated student athletes must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.00 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively. (4) NCEA Academic Honor Roll - nominated student-athletes must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.
