FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 10 Fresno State equestrian team will compete in the 2012 NCEA National Championships April 12-14, 2012. The competition will be held at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas. The Bulldogs are heading into the National Championships ranked No. 10 in the nation with All-American freshman Macy Wilson and Honorable Mention All-Americans Lauren Crivelli and Kimberly HewsonBudnik. These three 'Dogs along with the rest of their teammates have an overall team record of 8-7, took first place in the Best in the West Invitational and second in the Willis Invitational.
Holly Elsbernd was named the Reserve Champion at the 2nd Annual Pin Oak Invitational.
Fresno State equestrian won the sixth annual Best in the West Invitational.
The Bulldogs went undefeated (4-0) at home for the 2011-12 season.
Kimberly HewsonBudnik leads the team with the most MVP honors earned (5).
Lauren Crivelli leads the team with the most wins this season (14).
Macy Wilson was named NCEA All-American and Crivelli and HewsonBudnik were named Honorable Mention All-Americans for the 2011-12 season.
Collegiate equestrian is now governed by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA).
Elsbernd Named Reserve Champion
Fresno State senior Equitation over Fences captain, Holly Elsbernd, earned the Reserve Champion title at the 2nd Annual Pin Oak Invitational in Houston, Texas. Elsbernd competed in the first round Saturday evening against Rice's Dana Ross defeating her 65-0. In the second round, Elsbernd scored a 60, defeating South Dakota's rider's score of 55. In the final round Elsbernd notched a score of 80, but fell to the rider from Texas A&M who scored an 82.
Two Freshman Pick Up MVPs In New Mexico
In the final weekend of regular season competitions, Macy Wilson and Ciara Kozlowski picked up MVP honors in the team victory against No. 8 New Mexico State 9-7. The Bulldogs fell to No. 5 Auburn, 11-5, on the previous day.
'Dogs Wrap Up Home Events
The Fresno State equestrian team hosted their final home competition of the 2011-12 season with a Red and Blue Team scrimmage at the Student Horse Center on Saturday. The Blue team earned the victory, upsetting the Red team 11-8. The scrimmage was structured in competition format in order to prepare the Bulldogs for their event at Las Cruces, N.M.
Bulldogs Battle In The South
In the first away competition of the spring season the Bulldogs gave Baylor a tough ride, but fell just short to the Bears (8-9) Saturday after a tight competition. Sophomore Hillary West earned the MVP in Equitation over Fences with an 83 against Baylor. On Sunday, West was the only 'Dog to earn a point against the No. 3 University of Georgia as the Bulldogs fell 17-1.
Bulldogs Earn "Best in the West" Title
Fresno State earned the title "Best in the West" Sunday at the Student Horse Center as they defeated the University of Tennessee Martin (8-7) and Texas Christian University (9-7). TCU finished in second with one win over UTM who came in third.This was the sixth annual Best in the West tournament and it was the fifth time Fresno State has won. In 2011, Fresno State finished second but returned this year to retake the "Best in the West" title.
