FRESNO, Calif. - Sydney Elliott is one of eight NCEA riders who were chosen Thursday to attend the 2014 American Quarter Horse Association Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge. The event will take place on November 19-20 as part of the AQHA World Championship Show to be held in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Elliott, the psychology major from Meridian, Idaho, is now entering her junior year at Fresno State. She was named to the President's List in the fall of 2012 as well as earning "Rookie of the Year" after competing at the NCEA National Championships in Waco, Texas.
Based on 2013-14 individual statistics for horsemanship, eight current National Collegiate Equestrian Association riders were selected to represent eight different institutions at the event.
The collegiate riders selected for the AQHA Horsemanship Challenge are as follows:
Samantha Chiodo, South Carolina
Lauren DeVoe, New Mexico State
Sydney Elliott, Fresno State
Lindsey McMullen, Oklahoma State
Megan McMullen, TCU
Elizabeth Niewonja, South Dakota State
Logan Pluhar, Texas A&M
Heather Schmidt, Georgia
First Alternate: Lucy Igoe, Auburn
Second Alternate: McKenzie Perry, UT-Martin
The preliminaries take place Wednesday, Nov. 19 beginning at 11 a.m. CT, while the finals are set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov.r 20.
