FRESNO, Calif. - Summer has ended, school has started and the Fresno State equestrian team is gearing up for its first scrimmage of the season on Saturday at the Student Horse Center on campus.
The Bulldogs are hosting an inter-squad competition this weekend to mark the first home event for fall 2011.
"I'm looking forward to watching our ladies displaying their talent and hard work this weekend," co-head coach Stephanie Reeves said. "Each and every one of them has been working hard and supporting one another which is going to make for some serious friendly competition this Saturday."
The purpose of the scrimmage is to prepare the equestrian team for the upcoming season and get the 'Dogs ready for competition.
"This team scrimmage is very important because it provides a competition atmosphere to prepare the team for our upcoming season," co-head coach Julia Scrivani said. "Each team member has the advantage to know the horse they are riding, as well as the knowledge of their opponent which will provide the best opportunity to get into the show arena and be successful. Having a carded judge who will provide direct feedback about their rides provides an educational opportunity."
"As a coach you are proud to see so much talent on your roster; at the same time, it makes your job that much harder when it comes time to select a traveling squad!" Reeves added. "This is why this weekend will be so valuable."
The event will run from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Be sure to come check out the Fresno State equestrian team and support the 'Dogs as they prepare for their first official season match-up on Sept. 23 when they travel to ride against South Carolina.
