The 'Dogs Take English/Western High Point Championship Title
The 2002-03 equestrian squad hosted their first English/Western show of the season last weekend. The Bulldogs captured both titles with 19 points in English and 29 points in Western. In the English division, four schools competed including Fresno State. Bakersfield College came in second with three points under the 'Dogs with 16. UC Davis grabbed 13 points and Cal Poly earned 10 points. In the Western division Cal Poly grabbed second place with one point under Fresno State with 28 points. Santa Cruz took home 23 points, UC Davis took 21 points, and Nevada took 17 points. The 'Dogs' next action will be an English/Western show next Sunday at UC Davis at 8 a.m.
Riders Return From Hollywood Christmas Parade
15 riders from Fresno State Equestrian team are returning home Monday after participating in the 71st Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade. It will air on NBC on Dec. 16. The participants included Ashley Chapman, Stephanie Cosner, Shannon Morrison, Ashley Owens, Amy Wright, Andrea Crisp, Jennifer Mansell, Jessica Miller, Christa Brown. Kole Bingaman, Ellie Pearce, Michelle Tonello, Sara Vowell, Tiffany Washington, and Laura White.
2002-03 Squad Captures Reserved Champion
After the last day of showing, the 'Dogs took home the title of Reserve Champion Sat.-Sun., Nov. 23-24 at the first Western show of the season, hosted by Bakersfield College. The squad pulled in 22 points, just six under the championship holder, UC Davis. In the Reining Horsemanship, Jennifer Levenfeld finished in fourth while Taylor Mason finished seventh. In the Open Rail Horsemanship, Jessica Frazier placed fourth and Christy Webb was fifth. In Advanced Horsemanship II, Beth Knapp grabbed third and Katie Geyer took fifth. In the Advanced Horsemanship I, Maja Jordan captured first, Katie Wagner finished in second and Shawna Erickson placed in sixth. In the Intermediate Horsemanship II, Elisha McArthur finished fifth in Section A, which helped her qualify for Regional Finals. Amy Reed captured first in Section B, which helped her to qualify. Kristi Rogers finished in second, which also helped her to qualify and Nikole Bingaman placed in fifth. In Section C, Andrea Crisp finished in fourth and Erin Lange finished in fifth. In the Intermediate Horsemanship I, Lori McPeters captured first in Section A and Jessica Miller finished in third. In Section B Amy Wright finished in fifth. In the Beginning Horsemanship Walk/Trot, Becky Warmerdam grabbed first while Nicole Rogers finished in third.
English Riders Completed First Show
The Bulldogs captured the Reserve Champion title with 27 points in Stanford on Oct. 26-27. Individually, Kathryn Frost took fourth in Open Fence, while Dawn McIntosh placed in seventh in the Intermediate Fences and fourth in Open Equitation on Flat, and Pam Cullip took fourth in Novice Fences. Sarah Holmes captured second in the Advanced Walk-Trot, Danielle Golden took fifth in Section A of Advanced Walk-Trot, Erin Saunders took fifth in Section B of Advanced Walk-Trot, Amber Jones ran away with first in the Walk-Trot, Michilah Anglin took second in Beginning Walk-Trot. Amanda Hancock captured first in Intermediate Equitation, while Shannon Morrison took third. Amanda Smith took first in Section A of Novice Equitation, while Julia Scrivani took third, Christina Brown took fifth. Ashley Owens took first in Section B of Novice Equitation, and Emily Brown took second.
